"Transfer Jestina Now or Face Supreme Court Battle" Rep. Sumo Mulbah Accuses JFK of Cover-Up, Demands Accountability

Monrovia, Liberia – Montserrado County District #3 Representative Sumo K. Mulbah has issued a strongly worded public statement accusing the management of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK) of attempting to conceal alleged medical malpractice in the case of Liberian patient Jestina, who is currently receiving treatment in India. The lawmaker is demanding her immediate transfer to a more specialized hospital and warning that the matter could end up before the Supreme Court if urgent action is not taken.

Rep. Mulbah addressed his statement to the management of JFK Medical Center, the Minister of Health, and women's advocacy organizations, describing the situation as an urgent medical and humanitarian crisis that requires immediate intervention.

"The Management of JFK Medical Center should immediately transfer Jestina from her current facility in India to a more advanced, specialized hospital equipped to handle complex neurological trauma and spinal rehabilitation," Rep. Mulbah declared.

The District #3 lawmaker alleged that evidence from the hospital in India shows Jestina sustained a devastating spinal cord injury following what he described as a faulty and negligently administered epidural procedure before her Caesarean section. He claimed the injury has left her with severe physical complications and lifelong trauma.

Rep. Mulbah further accused officials of JFK Medical Center and medical practitioners of misleading lawmakers during previous legislative engagements by allegedly claiming that Jestina had a pre-existing spinal condition before undergoing surgery.

"The hospital administration of JFK and associated practitioners did engage in systemic falsehoods during legislative conferences, actively attempting to cover up medical malpractice by falsely claiming that Jestina possessed a pre-existing spinal cord issue prior to the C-section procedure," he asserted.

The lawmaker argued that medical consent forms cannot be used as protection against negligence, stressing that healthcare professionals have a legal and ethical responsibility to safeguard the lives and dignity of patients. He maintained that Jestina's present condition demands accountability from all those responsible.

Among his demands, Rep. Mulbah called for Jestina's immediate transfer to a tertiary medical facility in India with advanced expertise in neurological trauma and spinal rehabilitation. He also requested the immediate suspension of the doctor who allegedly performed the faulty epidural and Caesarean section, pending professional investigations.

"We formally demand the immediate suspension of the medical license and clinical privileges of the doctor who performed the faulty epidural and C-section procedure, ensuring they are removed from active practice to prevent further harm to patients," he stated.

The Montserrado lawmaker also urged disciplinary action against any medical officials found to have provided false information regarding Jestina's medical history. He warned that if the demands are ignored, legal proceedings would be initiated to hold the hospital and those responsible fully accountable.

"Should these demands for justice, transparency, and patient transfer be ignored, we are fully prepared to escalate this matter to the Supreme Court, where formal legal action will be pursued to ensure complete justice against the hospital and accountable personnel," Mulbah warned.

Rep. Mulbah further criticized what he described as the silence of women's rights organizations over Jestina's condition, questioning why advocacy groups had not spoken more forcefully in support of the patient. He called on mothers, women's groups, and civil society organizations to unite and demand justice, insisting that healthcare accountability should transcend political boundaries.

"Some people said that because the woman comes from another district inside Montserrado, this battle is not my worry. However, I am part of the Montserrado Caucus, and my legislative supervision requires a strong commitment to improving healthcare services while ensuring that medical institutions remain accountable to the communities they serve," Rep. Mulbah concluded.
