Breaking News: Jewel Granted Compassionate Release Over Health Concern

Monrovia, Liberia: Criminal Court “C” Judge Ousman F. Feika has granted former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor’s request for compassionate release from custody at the Monrovia Central Prison in the ongoing drug trafficking case.

The decision was reached on Friday, September 4, after Taylor’s legal team raised concern over her health status and requested that she be authorized to receive medical care outside detention.

The ruling means the former vice president would be made to turned over every travel document to the court and remain in its reach as investigation continues into her alleged involvement in the US$317.68 million cocaine bust.

She faces multiple charges including unlicensed importation, distribution, and transportation of controlled substances, among others, in connection with the country's largest-ever drug trafficking case.
