Kortu FA Snatched LFA Second Division Spot With Narrow Win Over Thunder FC

Buchanan, Grand Bassa: Montserrado County-based Third Division club Kortu Football Academy have qualified for the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Second Division League after securing a decisive 1-0 win over Margibi County outfit Thunder FC in the National Third Division playoffs.

Kortu FA entered the crucial match on Tuesday, August 11, in search of at least a draw, but went the extra mile to stun their opponents and collect all 3 points at the Doris Williams Sports Pitch in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

The two sides went goalless at the break, but the Thunder boys lost track in the second half, which opened the way for Kortu FA to get the match's lone goal. Thanks to youngster Steven Fayiah's strike that separated the two sides and ultimately decided the match.

The win saw Kortu FA finish flawlessly in Group B of the National Third Division playoffs. The Montserrado County-based club won all three matches in their Second Division qualification quest.

They began with a 1-0 win over Gedeh Wolves FC of Grand Gedeh County, and went to whip Nimba County's Bain United 2-0, before sealing their latest 1-0 win over Thunder FC. The stats gave Kortu FA an impressive tally with 9 points from 3 matches.

The Montserrado County-based club's latest victory against Thunder does not only send them to the Second Division, but also cement their spot in the National Third Division playoffs grand final.

The Kortu boys will face fellow Montserrado County side Tebeh FC in the championship final. Tebeh had earlier secured promotion to the Second Division.

For Kortu FA, the promotion marks a new beginning. The club will now turn its attention toward preparations for life in the second tier league, where the competition seems much tougher.
