Woman Killed on New Year’s Night in Bopolu District; Suspect Arrested

Bopolu District, Gbarpolu County: A tragic incident marred New Year’s celebrations in Bonokai Town, Gungbaya Chiefdom, after a 27-year-old woman, Lango Johnson, was reportedly killed on the night of January 1.

According to preliminary information from local authorities, the prime suspect in the case is Ansu, identified as Johnson’s boyfriend and a Sierra Leonean national who works on a local palm farm in the area.

Police sources disclosed that the incident allegedly stemmed from a domestic dispute. The suspect reportedly accused the victim of being romantically involved with another man. During the confrontation, he allegedly prevented Johnson from attending a watch-night church service and later strangled her, leading to her death.

The incident has shocked residents of Bonokai Town and surrounding communities, many of whom described the victim as peaceful and well-known in the area.

Following the incident, security forces moved swiftly and arrested the suspect, who is currently being held in police custody in Bopolu City. Authorities say a full investigation is underway, and the suspect is expected to be formally charged and forwarded to court in line with Liberian law.

Police have called on the public to remain calm and allow the justice system to take its course, while reiterating their commitment to addressing domestic violence and ensuring accountability.
