House Commences Analysis of Nimba District #5 Demand for Bigger Budgetary Allotment for Health and Energy

CAPITOL HILL, MONROVIA: The House of Representatives has commenced what is expected to be a thorough review of several key budgetary proposals submitted by Nimba County Electoral District #5 Representative Kortor S. Kwagrue.

Representative Kwagrue is seeking substantial national support in the Fiscal Year 2026 National Budget to boost healthcare delivery and expand energy access across the district.

During the 11th Day Sitting of the 3rd Quarter of the 2nd Session, plenary deliberated on Representative Kwagrue’s communication outlining three major areas in need of immediate government intervention.

Representative Kwagrue wants increased budgetary allotment in the draft Fiscal Year 2026 national budget for Ganta Rehabilitation Hospital, Zoe-Geh Medical Center, and the provision of electricity for multiple communities in District #5

According to the lawmaker, improved investment in these sectors is not only overdue but vital for addressing growing healthcare demands and reducing energy gaps that continue to hinder economic and social growth in the district.

He noted that the Ganta Rehabilitation Hospital and Zoe-Geh Medical Center are key health institutions serving thousands of residents who remain challenged by limited equipment, insufficient funding, and overstretched services.

Kwagrue further stressed that expanding electricity access would significantly improve safety, support small businesses, and enhance quality of life for families in rural and peri-urban communities across District #5.

Following thorough discussion, plenary voted to forward the proposals to the House Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance for scrutiny. The referral comes at a crucial time, as national budget hearings are currently ongoing.

The committee is expected to review the requests, engage relevant stakeholders, and determine how the proposed allocations can be integrated into broader national priorities for the 2026 fiscal year.

As budget discussions progress, residents of District #5 await the outcome, hopeful that these long-standing development needs will be prioritized in the upcoming national spending plan.
