Man Dies in Apparent Suicide in Gbarmue Town, Bong County

Gbarmue Town, Bong County: A tragic incident has shaken Gbarmue Town in Bong County Electoral District #3 following the reported suicide of a man believed to be in his early 30s.

The deceased has been identified as James Mulbah, a resident of Gbarmue Town, who reportedly died after shooting himself with a single-barrel firearm.

The incident, which occurred under circumstances that are still being investigated, resulted in his instant death.
Eyewitnesses and family members described the incident as shocking and unexpected, stating that James showed no unusual behavior in the days leading up to the tragedy. Community members said he appeared calm and went about his normal activities prior to the incident.

James Mulbah was well known in Gbarmue Town, particularly for his involvement in the local gold mining business.

He was reportedly the primary source of income for his family. His mother, speaking emotionally, said his death would plunge the family into deeper poverty and hardship, noting that the loss was not only emotional but also economic.

Hawa Perry, believed to be James’ girlfriend, revealed that he had recently expressed emotional distress and repeatedly said he was “not okay.” According to her, James often spoke about suffering internally, though he maintained regular meals and had no known disputes or conflicts at the time.

“He cried many times that he was not okay,” Hawa said, adding that she never placed any financial or personal demands on him. She described James as someone who appeared calm about life despite his struggles, making the incident difficult for those close to him to comprehend.
Further reports indicate that James had previously attempted suicide in 2022. At the time, local authorities reportedly intervened and confiscated his firearm. Witnesses also claimed that shortly before the incident, James allegedly made threatening remarks toward a neighbor, raising concerns about his state of mind.

Confirming the incident, Mr. James Kartor, Head of the Police Crime Services Division for Bong County, said James was pronounced dead upon arrival at Phebe Hospital. He described the incident as a major setback for the victim’s family and the community at large.
Mr. Kartor disclosed that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the victim’s previous complaints about his personal struggles and the events that immediately preceded his death.

Authorities have urged community members to remain calm as investigations continue, while local leaders and residents have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling for increased attention to mental health awareness and support within rural communities.
