LNTA Shuts Down All Beauty Pageants, Blocks Unauthorized Queens

Monrovia, Liberia: The Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) has announced an immediate suspension of all beauty pageants and related activities across the country.

In a strong directive issued Tuesday, the Authority said no individual is allowed to represent Liberia as a queen or titleholder on any local or international platform without written approval from LNTA.

The decision also places an immediate halt on the issuance of permits to pageant organizers, institutions, and organizations. According to LNTA, the suspension will remain in effect until a standardized approval and compliance framework is established.

LNTA said the move is aimed at protecting Liberia’s national image and ensuring that cultural representation meets internationally recognized standards.

The Authority warned that future approvals will depend on strict compliance requirements, including transparent selection processes, proper governance structures, participant welfare, ethical conduct, and brand alignment with Liberia’s national identity.

Organizers, promoters, and affiliated groups have been advised to stop all activities until new guidelines are officially released.

LNTA says it will soon publish detailed procedures outlining how pageants can regain approval under the new framework.

The Tourism Authority stressed that the action is part of broader efforts to ensure credibility and responsible representation of Liberia on the global stage.
