Information gathered indicates that the soldiers had recently returned from Sapo National Park in Sinoe County, where they were deployed to evict illegal miners and provide security for Liberia’s largest protected forest.
Sources say the personnel were taken into custody shortly after completing the operation. However, military authorities have yet to disclose the reasons for the arrests or whether any formal charges have been filed.
As of the time of this report, the soldiers remain in detention at the EBK Barracks, while investigations into the matter are reportedly ongoing.
Repeated efforts to obtain clarification from the AFL high command and relevant defense authorities have not been successful.
More information is expected as the situation develops.
