NPP Backs Boakia's Drug Fight, Calls For Fair Trial For Ex-VP Taylor

Monrovia, Liberia —In a political arena often defined by fierce rivalry, the Nation Patriotic Party, has thrown its weight behind the Unity Party administration's war on illicit drugs, highlighting the government's Zero-tolerance stance against drugs trade.
Speaking on Wednesday, at the Charles Ghankay Taylor Conference Hall in Congo Town, the National Patriotic Party Chairman, George S. Mulbah, said the fight against drugs has been a Post-war priority, and that both the past government and the ruling government have made steady strides to eliminate the transnational narcotics network.
The former ruling party national Chairman noted that the government is succeeding in the fight against drugs, insisting that such a move could secure a safe drug-free environment.
Mulbah commended the ruling government and described the national crackdown on narcotics drugs as an aggressive approach that is yielding results.
"The issue of drugs started far back during Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's administration. It continues onward to former President Weah's administration and continues up to now. But the fight on drugs is more aggressive," Mulbah said crediting the ruling party war on illicit drugs.
Stressing on the rule of law, the Chairman of the National Patriotic Party, however called on the government to dispense justice void of political interference in the charges brought against its political leader, Jewel Howard Taylor.
According to Mulbah, the NPP has pledged strong support for its standard bearer amid court trial. He further stated that legal pursuit is more responsible than vandalization, as he went on to dismiss public claims that the party has neglected its political leader.
He added that the party remains resolute in ensuring that judicial independence is upheld in the ongoing drug case.
The Party says while it also applauds the government for the compassionate release of Madam Howard-Taylor, it believes that the channel through which the former Vice President was arrested at the Roberts International Airport was unfair.
The NPP political leader and former Liberia Vice President was charged following what investigators termed as "procedures and a review of the evidence presented by the Joint National Security Investigative team."
She faces rocketing charges, including Unlicensed Importation of Controlled drugs, Transportation of Controlled drugs, Criminal Solicitation; Criminal Facilitation among others.
Meanwhile, The National Patriotic Party, through the executive Committee, has suspended three of its members for breaching the party's bylaws and policies.
The Party says the decision stems from a violation of Article 2 section 7 of the party's Constitution, which gave provisions for administrative actions against party deviants
The suspended officials include Emmanuel Goll, Neileh Daitouah, and Daoda Nesco.
The NPP maintained that the three members breached the standing rules of the party by endorsing an opposition roundtable meeting without notifying the National Executive Committee.
"Those agent provocateurs, who are one way of the other being used by extended factors as a sign in our party, who try to duplicate our party would be suspended and we will turn them over to the grievances and ethics committee for full flesh investigation,"Mulbah declared.
The decision was reached on Wednesday September, 9, 2026 by the National Patriotic Party Chairman, George Mulbah.
As the Monrovia City Court becomes the center of focus in the ongoing drug case involving former Vice President Howard-Taylor, civil society organizations as well as political pundits, have called for an impartial investigation to restore public credibility in the judiciary.
