ANC’s Cummings: Liberians Still Struggling Despite Growth Claims

Monrovia, Liberia: ANC Political Leader Alexander Cummings has questioned the government’s claim that Liberia’s economy is improving, asking, “recovery for who?”

He said that despite reports of economic growth and lower inflation, many Liberians are still facing hunger, poverty, and unemployment. According to him, about two out of every five people do not get enough food.

Cummings also criticized the US$1.2 billion national budget, saying it benefits politicians more than ordinary citizens. He noted that spending on government officials keeps rising while hospitals lack supplies, schools are underfunded, and social services are weak.

On corruption, Cummings said recording 11 indictments with only two convictions is not enough. He called for stronger action, including special anti-corruption courts and recovery of stolen public funds.

He urged the government to move beyond speeches and focus on improving the lives of Liberians.
