LWSC exemption from all customs duties is geared toward reducing operational costs for the entity, thereby keeping tariffs affordable for the Liberian people.
Under Executive Order #146, the following essential materials are now exempt from customs duties: diesel fuel for operations and production; rotatable and consumable spare parts for operations; low-lift and high-lift pumps for water treatment plants; water treatment chemicals and chlorinators; and laboratory apparatus for water treatment facilities (White Plains and outstations).
Others include Heavy-duty equipment, including water and sewer trucks, asphalt cutters, jackhammers, leak detectors, valves, pressure sewer cleaners, and high-pressure assorted pipes and fittings; Flow and water meters; Heavy and light-duty vehicles and Generators
Being cognizant that sanitation a serious component of the ARREST Agenda, President Boakai emphasized that this measure is essential to sustaining adequate water supply and effectively controlling sewage overflow in Monrovia and its environs.
“This Executive Order is a testament to my administration’s dedication to improving public health through clean water and proper sanitation. By easing the financial burden on LWSC, we are ensuring that every Liberian has access to safe drinking water while also strengthening our sewer systems,” President Boakai stated.
The Executive Order takes immediate effect as of Tuesday, March 18, 2025, and will serve as a critical tool in the government’s broader strategy for national development and public welfare.
