“Anybody Cus Me Here, I’ll Cus Their Parents” Benita Urey Fires Warning Amid Female Journalist Controversy

Monrovia, Liberia:Shaita Angels President Benita Whitney Urey is facing sharp criticism after appearing to celebrate a vicious verbal attack launched by Liberian international footballer Mohammed Keka Kamara against female sports journalist Fatumata J. Barry.

The controversy erupted after Barry published a write-up concerning Kamara’s decision to turn down a call-up to the Liberia national team for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Rwanda and Mali. Kamara subsequently responded to the journalist with a series of personal and insulting remarks targeting her appearance and credibility.

In the exchange, Kamara reportedly told Barry to “sit your fat fuck down and shut the fuck up,” before further writing: “fat fuck like your ass need validation and Facebook is the only place you get them.” The remarks have intensified debate over the treatment of female journalists covering Liberian football.

Rather than distancing herself from the insults, Urey appeared to celebrate the confrontation in comments posted on social media. The Shaita Angels president wrote: “She know everybody story so today somebody know her story  no women’s right baynay.”

Urey then directly questioned Barry’s involvement in promoting women’s football, writing: “Y’all that bringing women’s rights here, how many times y’all na see the journalist in question promoting women? How many women’s league games she can cover seh .” Her comments have added another layer to the dispute, particularly because she heads a club competing in the LFA Upper Women’s Division.

The Shaita Angels boss also issued another confrontational message, warning those who might criticize her over the matter: “Anybody cus me here I’ll cus their parents. I’m also somebody’s mom,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.

The episode has now moved beyond the original disagreement over Kamara’s Lone Star decision, with attention turning to the increasingly hostile exchanges surrounding female journalists in Liberian football. Urey’s public reaction, coming from a prominent figure in women’s football, has also triggered questions about whether disagreements over sports reporting should descend into personal attacks and insults.
