Did President Boakai's Statement in Lofa County Promote Corruption?

Voinjama Lofa County: During the 60th anniversary celebrations of Bong, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, and Nimba counties, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai made a statement that has ignited widespread condemnation from Liberians, including leaders of integrity institutions. His remarks were deemed not only embarrassing but also in direct contradiction to his public stance on fighting corruption. Many are now calling for the president to retract his statement immediately.

At the event, President Boakai openly suggested that his government officials should continue engaging in corrupt practices and stealing public funds, with the proceeds supposedly being used to "bless the Liberian people."

"We want to encourage those who want to remain CORRUPT and STEAL money; I beg y'all the money should be used to bless our peopeo"he said

This shocking declaration has raised serious concerns, sparking outrage across the nation.

One of the country's leading anti-corruption advocates, Anderson Miamen, head of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), took to social media to denounce the president's comments. On his Facebook page, Miamen expressed his dismay, writing:

"Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai embarrassingly endorses corruption. Please listen to the audio-visual material below. A sitting President, and so-called integrity champion, encouraging government officials to steal and bless the people? Is this really what you advocate, President Boakai? Is this the message you are sending to your officials, especially after Liberia's eligibility for a new MCC Compact?

This is deeply embarrassing and completely contradicts the president's anti-corruption promises and commitments. I am seriously disappointed."

The public outcry continues to grow as Liberians demand accountability from their leaders. The president's controversial comments have raised important questions about the government's commitment to tackling corruption and upholding ethical leadership. What do you think of President Boakai's recent statement made in Voinjama, Lofa County?
