Emmanuel Kangar Recognizes Famatta Thomas for Her Pioneering Contributions to Journalism, Activism, and Women’s Empowerment in Liberia

Margibi County, Liberia: in a powerful gesture of recognition through an article, Emmanuel Kangar, the Vice President of the Margibi Young Journalists Association (MaYJA), recently celebrated the exceptional contributions of Famatta Eunice Thomas, the Financial Secretary of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FEJAL).
Kangar praised Thomas for her tireless work in journalism, activism, and women’s empowerment, particularly within Margibi County.
Famatta, a prominent voice at Voice of Firestone 89.5 MHz, has made a significant impact through her multi-faceted career, using her platform to bring attention to critical issues that affect her community and Liberia at large.
With years of experience at Radio Peace FM 96.5 MHz and currently serving as the Radio Supervisor at Voice of Firestone, Famatta’s reporting spans a wide array of topics, but her heart lies in advocating for marginalized communities, especially women and children. Her show, Focus on Women, highlights important issues surrounding female empowerment, offering a space for women to be heard and recognized.
"Famatta’s commitment to truth-telling is not limited to mere reporting; it extends to advocating for those whose struggles are overlooked or ignored by mainstream media. She has used her position in the media to highlight critical health issues, raise awareness about environmental challenges, and engage in discussions that challenge societal norms. Her interviews, features, and special reports are known for their depth, compassion, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on Liberia’s society" Kangar posted.
Famatta’s activism extends beyond journalism. She is deeply involved in the fight against drug abuse, founding Touch Life Liberia to tackle the issue of narcotics use within her community. Through her leadership, Famatta spearheaded the Mother Against Drugs (MAD) campaign, which led to the passing of a groundbreaking bill in the Liberian legislature that made narcotic trafficking and sale a non-biddable offense.
Her advocacy for women has also been transformative. As the Financial Secretary of FEJAL, Famatta has worked relentlessly to improve the representation of women in journalism. She has created mentorship opportunities for young women, ensuring a more inclusive future for the profession. Through grassroots initiatives, Famatta has empowered women in her community with access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, helping them thrive in all aspects of life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Famatta is dedicated to philanthropy. Through Touch Life Liberia, she has raised funds to provide medical support for individuals struggling with illnesses but unable to afford treatment.
Emmanuel Kangar’s recognition of Famatta Eunice Thomas is a well-deserved honor, highlighting her tireless dedication to the betterment of her community and Liberia. Her contributions in journalism, activism, and women’s empowerment continue to inspire change and provide hope to the people of Margibi County and beyond.
