Fuel Tanker Explosion in Northern Nigeria Kills at Least 147, Injures Over 100

A tragic fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria has claimed the lives of at least 147 people, officials confirm. The incident occurred overnight when a large crowd rushed to the scene of the overturned tanker to collect leaking petrol, despite police warnings to stay away.

The fire, which engulfed the tanker after it crashed, erupted in Jigawa state's Ringim area. Police had cordoned off the site following the accident late on Tuesday night but struggled to control the growing crowd, according to police spokesman Lawal Shiisu.

More than 100 individuals who sustained injuries in the explosion were rushed to hospitals in Ringim. Many are reported to be in critical condition, straining local medical resources.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident as they urge the public to exercise caution in the aftermath of such accidents to prevent further loss of life.
