Former Barcelona Star Martin Braithwaite Poised to Acquire Espanyol

Martin Braithwaite, the former Barcelona and Espanyol forward, is reportedly on the brink of making a bold move to acquire a controlling stake in Espanyol, just a month after terminating his contract with the club.

After three seasons at Barcelona, Braithwaite joined Espanyol in September 2022 and quickly became the club's top scorer, leading them to a triumphant promotion back to LaLiga. Despite this achievement, he executed a release clause to leave on a free transfer amid increasingly strained relations with the board. Shortly thereafter, he joined Brazilian side Gremio, marking the eighth club of his illustrious senior career.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, the 33-year-old Dane is now eyeing a takeover bid for Espanyol. Braithwaite's extensive business ventures have catapulted him into the ranks of the wealthiest footballers. His significant investments in U.S. property and a major stake in NYCE Companies have boosted his net worth to a staggering £224.6 million.

Braithwaite's entrepreneurial acumen and visionary mindset have been key to his success. In a 2021 interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, he remarked, "I always had this American side. I think maybe that's why my mindset is more American: dreaming big, doing amazing things, writing goals down."

This potential acquisition could mark a new chapter in Braithwaite's career, blending his passion for football with his formidable business prowess.
