"JFK Press Release Is a Blatant Lie" Rep. Sumo Mulbah Accuses Medical Center of Political Spin, Demands Accountability in Jestina Case
MONROVIA, Liberia:Montserrado County District #3 Representative Sumo Mulbah has sharply criticized the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center over its recent public statement regarding the condition of a patient identified as Jestina, accusing the country's largest referral hospital of issuing false information to evade responsibility for what he described as a case of serious medical negligence.
In a strongly worded statement, Rep. Mulbah alleged that JFK's official communication falsely claimed that Jestina is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in India. According to him, the patient is not admitted to any medical facility but is instead staying at a guest house while awaiting the advanced medical care she urgently needs. "Your official release states that Jestina is currently at the India hospital. This is a blatant lie. Jestina is not in any hospital as we speak; she is currently residing at a guest house," Mulbah declared.
The lawmaker accused the hospital's Communications Director of turning a medical crisis into a political battle instead of demonstrating compassion and accepting responsibility. "The recent press release issued by the Communications Director of the John F. Kennedy Medical Center is nothing short of a calculated political statement. It aims to deflect accountability rather than address the critical medical negligence at hand," he asserted.
Mulbah stressed that his criticism is not directed at the entire institution but at what he described as negligent medical professionals whose actions have allegedly harmed patients. "No one hates JFK. We fully recognize that there are dedicated, excellent doctors within your facility. However, it is an undeniable reality that there are also bad doctors whose negligence costs lives and destroys families," he said.
According to the representative, his office has received numerous complaints from patients and families regarding alleged poor treatment at JFK Medical Center. While acknowledging that every case cannot be addressed immediately, he maintained that his current priority remains securing justice and proper medical care for Jestina.
Mulbah further claimed that his office possesses medical records, clinical findings, and documentation from medical experts in India which, according to him, establish a direct connection between Jestina's current health complications and the Caesarean section reportedly performed at JFK. "We possess the complete medical reports, clinical findings, and supporting documentation, including records of explicit discussions with medical experts in India, which directly trace her current life-threatening complications back to the Caesarean section performed at JFK," he stated.
The Montserrado County lawmaker also criticized what he described as the hospital's response to the family's request for assistance, alleging that they were informed there were no available funds to facilitate her transfer or advanced treatment. "For a hospital representative to look a family in the eye and claim JFK has no money to fix a crisis the facility created is an absolute mockery of healthcare," Mulbah said.
Warning that he would not be intimidated by any legal or institutional pressure, Mulbah vowed to continue pushing for accountability. "We take your intimidation tactics and threats seriously, but they will not silence us," he declared, adding that he would continue demanding a comprehensive investigation and that any medical personnel found responsible should face the full consequences of the law.
Concluding his statement, the lawmaker said the case has moved beyond private discussions and would now be pursued before the public, government, and the courts. "This hurts deeply, and we will no longer leave this in the hands of quiet hope. We are bringing these facts directly to the public, the government, and the courts of law to demand immediate accountability and systemic reform," Mulbah said.
The allegations contained in Rep. Sumo Mulbah's statement are his claims and have not been independently verified. JFK Medical Center has previously issued a public statement regarding the matter. The medical center and any individuals mentioned retain the right to respond to these latest allegations.
