Liberia Launches $25 Million Work-Study Program for Aspiring STEM and AI Innovators
Monrovia—In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering Liberia’s next generation of innovators, Foreign Affairs Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti has announced a $25 million master’s degree work-study program for young Liberians.
The program, which will send 250 students to the United States for advanced studies in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and artificial intelligence (AI), is set to begin in January.
Announced during the weekly Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing, Minister Nyanti emphasized the transformative potential of this investment.
“This program represents a significant investment in the future of Liberia,” she said. “By equipping our young minds with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in STEM and AI, we are laying the foundation for a robust and innovative workforce that will contribute meaningfully to national development.”
The program will officially launch later this week, marking the start of the application process. Minister Nyanti explained that the initiative is designed not only to advance education but also to promote economic empowerment.
Participants will work while studying, gaining valuable professional experience and financial support during their time in the U.S.
Upon completing their studies, graduates will return to Liberia, where their skills and global perspectives will be crucial for advancing critical sectors like technology, engineering, and education.
“The return of these graduates will be a game-changer,” said Minister Nyanti. “With their expertise, they will contribute to strengthening our economy and driving sustainable development.”
The $25 million program reflects the government’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and investing in youth education. More details on eligibility and application requirements will be shared during the upcoming launch event. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages interested students with a passion for STEM and AI to seize this opportunity to become part of Liberia’s transformative journey.
