Margibi University Faces Crisis as Board of Trustees Plans to Cancel Commencement Convocation.

According to the Board, Dr. Isaac has shown consistent disrespect towards their authority, prompting a series of actions that have led to significant tensions within the institution. In light of this, the Board has announced its decision to cancel the university's upcoming 3rd commencement convocation, scheduled for February 22, 2025.

The Board has outlined several instances of Dr. Isaac’s alleged disregard for its guidance, which they consider serious violations of governance and university protocols. Among the primary accusations is Dr. Isaac's implementation of an organogram that had not been approved by the Board of Trustees.

Furthermore, the president appointed a Vice President for Administration (VPA), instead of the specified Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), as outlined in the university's governing act and instructed by the Board.

In addition, the Board claims that Dr. Isaac appointed several employees and set their salaries without consulting them, including an increase in the salary of his executive assistant. This unapproved allocation of salaries has reportedly resulted in a significant salary disparity among staff members.

Perhaps most troubling of all, the president is accused of issuing final clearances for student graduations without seeking the Board's approval, a breach of the university's governance structure.

The Margibi University Act grants the Board of Trustees the authority to award degrees and approve major administrative appointments. Article IV c. of the Act specifically outlines the Board’s role in awarding degrees, yet the Board has stated it was not consulted regarding the upcoming convocation.

Meanwhile, Article IV g. grants the Board the right to approve key administrative appointments, including Vice Presidents and Deans, but the Board maintains that these were made without its involvement.

The tensions escalated during a recent radio appearance by Dr. Joseph Isaac in the county, where he was confronted by three members of the Board. The president dismissed their concerns as "ignorant talks" that he believes are hindering the institution’s growth. In his defense, Dr. Isaac pointed to the university's limited progress, having only graduated two classes since its establishment in 2012, as evidence of the challenges facing the institution.

As Margibi University heads into a crucial period of governance and academic planning, it remains unclear how the situation will unfold. The Board's decision to cancel the convocation is just one of several measures they are considering in response to what they perceive as an ongoing power struggle at the university.

Perhaps most troubling of all, the president is accused of issuing final clearances for student graduation without seeking the Faculty Senate approval and board final approval, a breach of the university's governance structure.

The future of the institution, as well as its upcoming convocation, now hangs in the balance.
