Mattress Provided to Aid Jailed Lawmakers in South Beach Prison

Monrovia, Liberia: Supporters of Liberia’s opposition have brought mattresses and food to four lawmakers jailed at South Beach Prison.
The lawmakers former Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, Dixon Seboe, Abu Kamara, and Jacob Debee were arrested over the December 2024 Capitol Building fire. They’ve been in jail without bail since last weekend.
Opposition leaders say the items are meant to help the lawmakers stay safe and healthy. They also say the arrest of the lawmakers is political.
“This is about basic dignity,” said one opposition supporter who helped deliver the aid.
Prison officials have not confirmed if they received the items. Rights groups are watching the case closely and are asking the government to treat the lawmakers fairly.
Court hearings will continue next week.
