ECOWAS Donates Vehicle to Boost Liberia’s Cavalla Bridge Supervision

Monrovia, Liberia: In a strategic step to enhance project supervision, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Mission in Liberia has donated a 2024 Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Pickup to the Ministry of Public Works.

The gesture is aimed at boosting logistical support for the ongoing construction of the Cavalla River Bridge, which connects Liberia to Côte d’Ivoire.

The vehicle was provided through the African Development Bank’s Project Implementation Unit on Friday, June 13, 2025, and is intended to ensure consistent on-site monitoring as the Liberian side of the bridge progresses.

ECOWAS Representative Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah, who presented the vehicle, emphasized the importance of mobility in delivering quality infrastructure results, calling the donation a tool to improve oversight and regional integration efforts.

“For actual work to go on, the logistical aspect is equally important. ECOWAS has donated this vehicle to enhance the ministry’s ability to supervise the project, and we expect it to be used prudently to advance regional integration," she stated.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the ministry, Assistant Minister for Planning and Research Abraham Rahim Bility assured that it would be used exclusively for the intended purpose.

“We want to assure you that the vehicle will be used for the very purpose for which it was donated and that the scope of work, as designed, will be implemented by our contractor," he stated.

The vehicle was officially turned over to the African Development Bank’s Project Implementation Unit, with Program Manager Rawlings Baco Kesselly confirming its immediate deployment to support technical supervision and field operations.
