House of Representatives Reaffirms Strong Commitment to ECOWAS Parliamentary Agenda

Monrovia, Liberia: The House of Representatives has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), highlighting the regional body's pivotal role in promoting democratic governance, economic integration, and sustainable development across West Africa.

During the opening session of the ECOWAS Delocalized Joint Committee Meeting currently underway in Monrovia, Montserrado District #2 Representative Sekou Kanneh, Chairman on Executive, underscored the importance of the committee’s work and its direct implications for the socioeconomic trajectory of the region.

“We want to make it unequivocally clear that the Liberian Legislature, under the leadership of Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, stands firmly with ECOWAS in its efforts to promote economic growth, peace, and stability across member states,” Representative Kanneh declared.

The Joint Committee Meeting, which runs through June 20, 2025, focuses on critical regional priorities, including macroeconomic policy, fiscal responsibility, youth empowerment, and job creation.

Representative Kanneh noted that the timing of the meeting is particularly significant, as member nations navigate post-pandemic recovery, global economic pressures, and the urgent needs of growing youth populations.

The deliberations of this gathering are of regional significance.

“We believe they will serve as a policy compass that can shape inclusive and prosperous futures for all West Africans,” he added.

In a strong show of legislative solidarity, the House of Representatives pledged close collaboration with the country’s ECOWAS Parliamentary Delegation to ensure the effective implementation of resolutions and frameworks emerging from the Monrovia meeting.

The ongoing ECOWAS Delocalized Meeting brings together lawmakers, policy experts, and observers from across the sub-region to address shared challenges and forge cooperative solutions aimed at fostering long-term peace, prosperity, and unity throughout West Africa.
