Minister of Education Reveals Unqualified Volunteer Teachers in Liberian Public Schools

Monrovia: The Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Jallah, has disclosed that unqualified and unskilled volunteer teachers are currently occupying classrooms in public schools across Liberia.
Speaking at the plenary of the Liberian Senate on Tuesday, Dr. Jallah provided an update on the status of the country's educational sector, revealing several concerning issues.

"During my visits to various public schools across the country, I found that some teachers are misleading students by misspelling words and teaching incorrect lessons," Dr. Jallah stated.

She emphasized that such issue is negatively impacting the quality of education that students are receiving within these institutions.

Dr. Jallah further disclosed that students in some public schools have also pleaded with her not to allow the school to promote them due to the inadequate education they have acquired.

"It is heartbreaking to hear students asking not to be promoted because they feel unprepared due to the lack of proper education," she added.

In response to these issues, Minister Jallah announced that the government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Education, will soon begin training for at least 2,000 volunteer teachers across the country.

The training of these voluntary public school teachers will help enhance their teaching skills for effective classroom management and adequate learning for students.

Minister Jallah's remarks come amid mounting criticism of the educational sector's progress.
