Power Struggle at PCC Draws Workers Union Attention, Calls for Immediate Step-down of City Manager

Paynesville: Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) is currently facing a struggle of power, as the current City Manager Stanley Zahn has allegedly, reportedly refused to step down from his position claiming; he was not appointed by former President George Weah and as such, the law governs appointed government official cannot be applied on him.

The controversy surrounding Zahn's refusal to relinquish power has caused a stir within the PCC and has raised concerns among the workers of the City Corporation.

The ambiguity caused by said power struggle has affected the institution’s ability to function effectively and serve the residents of Paynesville City amidst the many environmental challenges.
Speaking to knewsonline.com about the ongoing situation, Augustus Kpakolo, President of PCC Workers’ Union, disclosed that Stanley Zahn has since refused to turn over materials belonging to the City Corporation to the most senior employee of the entity (HR) as required by law.

It can be recalled on February 2, 2024, The President of the Republic, H.E Joseph Nyuma Boakai in a press release directed all former officials of government to, without any delay and hesitation, turn over all assets of government in their possession.

Highlighting the negative impact such power battle has had on the organization, Kpakolo expressed concerns about the PCC's ability to carry out its duties and fulfill its responsibilities to the community also describing Mr. Zahn action as gross disrespect to the President of Liberia.

President Boakai in accordance with the law, instructed all appointed officials of the former ruling CDC to hand over power and materials to the most senior employee of the respective institution (HR) but however, the PCC Workers’ Union claims that this has not been done by Manager Stanley Zahn since then, thereby leaving them in controversy, not knowing who to work with and report to, though there has been a straight mandate by the Human Resource manager that all Affairs of the entity be channel the H.R office in line with the President’s mandate.
‘’Stanley Zahn's refusal to step down has created a tense atmosphere for us within the PCC. We are unsure of who is in charge and how decisions will be made.” The Employees.
