ActionAid Liberia Launches Green Innovations Fair aimed at promoting Climate Justice in Liberia.

Monrovia, Liberia - ActionAid Liberia, an international nonprofit organization that focuses on human rights and social justice issues, has launched an initiative called "Green Innovations for Climate Justice." The program aims to address the pressing issue of climate change and its drastic impacts on vulnerable communities in Liberia.

Liberia, like many other developing countries, is experiencing the adverse effects of climate change, including extreme weather events and rising sea levels. These changes have far-reaching consequences, affecting agriculture, water resources, and overall livelihoods. Recognizing the urgent need for action, ActionAid Liberia has taken the initiative to combat climate change through innovative green solutions.

"Green Innovations for Climate Justice" is a comprehensive program that seeks to empower local communities in Liberia to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change while promoting sustainable development.

Speaking at the start of the start of the program ActionAid Liberia program Director Madam Elizabeth G. Johnson said the event aimed to combat climate change and promote the #FixTheFinance campaign, urging private banks and institutions to prioritize green innovations and stop financing climate destructive initiatives including burning Fossil fuels.

The Fair showcased green initiatives, fostered partnerships and supported youth entrepreneurs in scaling their green businesses. The initiative seeks to empower young entrepreneurs and promote sustainable environmental practices in Liberia.

Agriculture, another industry contributing to climate change, is also witnessing transformative green innovations. Sustainable farming methods, such as regenerative agriculture and precision farming, focus on reducing the use of synthetic inputs and increasing biodiversity. By embracing these practices, farmers can improve productivity, conserve natural resources, and build climate resilience. These innovations are proving particularly useful for small-scale farmers in developing countries, enabling them to adapt to a changing climate and achieve food security without further degradation of the environment.

She told journalists that ActionAid Liberia remains committed to fostering the Climate Justice campaign, establishing Climate Justice Movements, and empowering over 600,000 individuals, primarily women and youth.

The event received support from Civil Society Organizations, Green Cities Inc. The European Union in Liberia, and the Ministry of Agriculture, highlighting the importance of involving women and youth in advocating for climate justice.

Making remakes at the ceremony, Assistant Agriculture Minister for planning and development, Francis Mulbah, representing the Ministry of Agriculture said Liberia has already felt the impact of Green Innovation with erratic weather patterns affecting Liberian farmers and food security.  "we must act decisively to mitigate these effects," he emphasized.

Assistant Minister Mulbah highlighted the significance of climate-smart agriculture and the implementation of policies to adapt to and mitigate climate change. "Our upcoming National Agriculture Development Plan, launching this month, prioritizes sustainable farming practices to ensure a resilient agricultural sector," he assured the audience.

He further emphasized the power of promoting environmentally friendly practices and fostering market linkages to empower youth in driving sustainable solutions. He said these innovations not only mitigate climate change but also contribute to a more prosperous and resilient agricultural sector.

"As citizens, we all have a role to play. Let's embrace green innovation, support sustainable agriculture, and collaborate towards building a greener, more prosperous Liberia" he ended.

For her part EU Representative Madam Muisay Kakianeo  said as the world grapples with the urgent need to combat climate change, innovative solutions and green technologies are emerging as powerful tools for achieving climate justice. From renewable energy breakthroughs to sustainable agriculture practices, a range of green innovations is revolutionizing industries across the globe, offering hope for a more sustainable and equitable future and the EU was committed to helping organizations to solutions.

As the impacts of climate change continue to unfold, green innovations emerge not only as environmental solutions but as powerful tools for justice. These innovative practices are leveling the playing field, empowering marginalized communities, and tackling the inequalities exacerbated by climate change. Together, these developments hold the promise of a sustainable and equitable future where climate justice prevails.
