“The Government Is Doing Well”: Jewel Taylor Praises Boakai Administration

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Former Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor has publicly commended the Boakai administration for ongoing development efforts, saying the government deserves credit for some of the progress being made across the country.

Speaking as an opposition figure, Madam Taylor said public discussions often focus heavily on government shortcomings while major achievements receive little attention.

“The Government is doing well, even from my position as an opposition leader. However, the media tends to focus too much on negative stories,” she said.

Taylor pointed to the recent groundbreaking ceremony for Liberia’s first post-war maternity hospital as an example of a national project that should be celebrated. The project was launched by First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai in partnership with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

According to the former Vice President, the construction of a specialized maternity hospital is a significant step for Liberia’s health sector and one that deserves recognition beyond political lines.

Her remarks come amid intense political debate and growing public scrutiny of the government’s performance. While criticism of government policies continues in many quarters, Taylor believes positive developments should also be acknowledged when they occur.

The planned maternity hospital is expected to improve maternal and child healthcare services and stands as one of the major health infrastructure projects announced in recent years.

Taylor’s comments have attracted attention because they come from a prominent opposition voice, offering a rare acknowledgment of a government initiative at a time when political divisions remain strong.

Her statement serves as a reminder that national development projects can be recognized on their merit, regardless of political affiliation.
