45-Year-Old Man Dies After Tree Falls on Him in Kolahun Lofa County.
Lofa County, Liberia: A 45-year-old man, identified as Patrick Korhena, has died after a tree fell on him while he was working on his cocoa farm in Kpandehawai Town, Kolahun District.
According to Verity Online, the incident happened on December 20, 2025. According to local authorities, Korhena had gone to his cocoa garden to remove trees that were blocking his crops. Although some people initially said he was cutting palm trees, eyewitnesses later clarified that he was cutting other trees attached to the palms. During the process, one of the trees suddenly fell and struck him, causing his death.
A fifteen-member jury was set up to investigate the incident. Speaking for the jury, the foreman, Samuel N. Jallah, said there was no sign of foul play. The jury concluded that Korhena’s death was accidental and caused only by the falling tree.
Korhena’s widow, Madam Sangai Patrick, said her husband had attended a program in a nearby town the night before the incident. He returned home safely and went to the farm the next day, but never came back.
After the jury completed its work, the body was turned over to the family for burial. Police said no criminal activity is suspected, but routine investigations will continue.
The incident has increased fear among residents of Kpandehawai, who say the town has experienced several sudden deaths in recent times. These include deaths from a motorbike accident, a creek incident, another tree accident, and one case described as suspicious.
Community members are calling on authorities to improve safety awareness and take steps to prevent similar accidents. Local officials say they are reviewing safety measures, especially for farming activities.
As the town mourns the loss of Patrick Korhena, residents hope greater caution and safety will help prevent future tragedies.
