AFL Disrobes and Turns Over Two for Investigation for Allegedly Brutalizing a Lady
Monrovia, Liberia:The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has dishonorably discharged two soldiers and ordered their arrest following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing them manhandling a woman, in a move the military says demonstrates its zero tolerance for misconduct within its ranks.
The two former soldiers were presented to the public for the first time following the decision, as AFL Chief of Staff, General Davidson F. Forleh, announced their dismissal over the incident. Gen. Forleh also ordered the Liberia National Police to place the men in handcuffs.
Describing the dismissed soldiers as “bad apples” within the Armed Forces, Gen. Forleh made it clear that the military would not tolerate behavior that undermines its discipline, professionalism, and public trust.
The AFL chief of staff also ordered the removal of the former soldiers’ family members from military barracks, directing that they be taken to the area around the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, where they would have to make their own arrangements to return home.
The decision comes amid public attention surrounding the viral video, which allegedly captured the two soldiers manhandling a woman. The incident has raised concerns about the conduct of military personnel and the responsibility of security officers to respect the rights and dignity of civilians.
By dismissing the two men and ordering their handcuffing, the AFL leadership has signaled that alleged misconduct by members of the military will not be treated lightly. However, the allegations surrounding the incident remain subject to the appropriate legal process, including any investigation into the conduct depicted in the video.
