“Barclay Farm Resident Demands Apology from Rep. Jones Over Assault on Journalist”

Margibi County, Liberia: A resident of Barclay Farm in district #2 Margibi County, identified only as Sagacious, has publicly demanded that Representative Ivar K. Jones issue a formal apology after a disturbing incident involving journalist Emmanuel Lloyd.

The event, which took place on Saturday, April 6, 2025, has sparked significant concern throughout Margibi County.

According to multiple reports, Lloyd, a local journalist in the county, was attempting to document a physical altercation when he was reportedly confronted by a group of individuals believed to be supporters of Rep. Jones.

During the altercation, Lloyd’s phones were allegedly seized by two of rep. Jones' supporters ( Amadu Bar & Isaac), effectively disarming him and halting his coverage of the incident.

The journalist’s inability to continue recording has raised alarm bells among media rights advocates and civil society groups.

In response to the incident, the Margibi Youth Journalists Association (MaYJA) issued a strong statement condemning the alleged actions, highlighting the growing risks faced by journalists in the line of duty. The association emphasized that any attempt to silence or intimidate members of the press constitutes a direct threat to democracy and the freedom of information.

Phoning-in on a local radio program in the county, Sagacious called on Rep. Jones to publicly take responsibility and denounce the behavior of his alleged supporters. He stressed that in a democratic society, the rights of journalists must be respected and protected. Sagacious also reminded public officials of their duty to uphold the rule of law and ensure that such actions do not go unaddressed.
