China Delivers Emergency Food Assistance to Liberia, Reinforcing Bilateral Cooperation

Monrovia, Liberia: On December 15, the Government of the People’s Republic of China officially handed over emergency humanitarian food assistance to Liberia, marking another milestone in the growing strategic partnership between the two nations. The handover ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Yin Chengwu, alongside senior officials from both governments.

Also present were Zhang Yiming, Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy; Hon. Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, Liberia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry; Hon. Hadja Mamaka Bility, Minister of State without Portfolio; and Hon. Cllr. Jeddi Mowbray Armah, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, among other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Yin highlighted that the food assistance is a practical outcome of agreements reached under the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the recent high-level engagements between the Presidents of China and Liberia. He described the initiative as a tangible demonstration of China’s firm commitment to supporting Liberia’s food security, humanitarian needs, and overall national development.

The Ambassador further reaffirmed China’s dedication to working closely with Liberia to strengthen food resilience and improve the livelihoods of the Liberian people. He emphasized that the assistance reflects the shared vision of both nations in building a community with a shared future for humanity.

In response, Hon. Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, speaking on behalf of the Liberian Government, expressed profound appreciation to China for its timely and impactful support. She noted that the emergency food aid will significantly contribute to Liberia’s food security efforts and broader socioeconomic development goals.

The Liberian officials also praised the assistance as a strong example of South-South cooperation, reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with China in pursuit of its national development agenda.

Earlier in the week, Ambassador Yin Chengwu and Minister Dagoseh officially signed the handover certificate, formalizing the transfer of the emergency food assistance to the Government and people of Liberia.
