Liberia to Open Embassy in Canada After Four Decades.

Toronto, Canada: President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has revealed plans to establish Liberia’s first embassy in Canada since the 1980s, marking a great step in revitalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the Liberia Investment Forum 2024 in Toronto, President Boakai stated, “Liberia has lacked an official presence in Canada for over four decades, a gap we are committed to bridging by 2025.”

The Liberian leader stated that the decision is in response to calls from the Liberian community in Canada, which currently numbers around 30,000 people.

Boakai further emphasized that such move is part of Liberia’s broader strategy to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with Canada.

“Our Trade and Investment Office in Mississauga was the first step, and with an embassy, we can further strengthen our ties and promote mutual prosperity,” Boakai said.

The announcement comes as Liberia seeks to attract Canadian investments in key sectors such as energy, mining, and agriculture, aiming to enhance its global engagement and economic development.
