Ministry of Transport Launches Decentralized Land Transport Registration Across All 15 Counties

Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Transport of Liberia has officially launched the decentralization of land transport registration, extending services to all 15 counties in the country.

The move is aimed at making transport registration more accessible for both Liberians and foreign nationals.

During the launch, Minister of Transport Sirleaf Ralph Tyler expressed his appreciation for the government’s support. “We are grateful to the government of Liberia for their support in ensuring that the Ministry of Transport can fulfill its functions effectively,” said Minister Tyler.

He emphasized that the ministry's goal is to complete the registration process for all land transport by the end of October 2024. “Our objective is to complete that all vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles are registered by October 2024, and we are confident we can achieve this target,” he stated.

Minister Tyler highlighted that lessons learned from this decentralization initiative will be instrumental in establishing a long-term presence for the Ministry of Transport throughout the country. "The lessons learned from this process will help us create a permanent office for the Ministry in all counties, bringing our services closer to the people," he added.

The decentralization is expected to improve public access to essential services.

According to the Transport Minister, this effort will bring the Ministry of Transport closer to both Liberians and foreigners, making it easier to register vehicles and obtain licenses without having to travel to Monrovia.

Tyler at the same time revealed plans on collaborating with insurance companies to ensure a seamless experience for transport owners. “We will working with insurance companies to set up offices across the country so that vehicle, tricycle, and motorcycle owners can easily get their insurance as well,” the minister noted.

The new initiative will include the establishment of the Ministry offices in various counties where individuals can register their vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, and obtain driver’s licenses, reducing the need for long-distance travel to Monrovia.
