One-all draw leaves Discoveries FC lagging 6 points behind league leader Fassell FC

Monrovia, Liberia: Discoveries Football Club has missed out on a crucial opportunity to reduce a six-point margin behind league leader, Football Club Fassell, after they failed to maintain a twenty-six-minute lead in what was a topnotch rivalry soccer display on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) First Division League.

It came as a top target for the second-place rivals Discoveries FC to collect all three points and reduce the 6-point margin behind FC Fassell after taking a 1-0 lead, but fell short to maintain the score line in the match that ended with sharing points in a 1-1 draw at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

Samuel Leo sent Discoveries FC ahead in the 26th minute, but Lawrence Kume replied for FC Fassell minutes later to level the score line in the highly contested match. The draw maintained League FC Fassell on 6 points cleared over Discoveries FC, who are striving to close in on the point gap.

The second-placed rivals, Discoveries FC, sit next to Fassell with 32 points. They would be hoping to extend their lead in the position and fight to lessen the margin on the top spot in their upcoming league fixtures.

However, following the one-all, FC Fassell Head Coach Ivan Minnaert told K-News Sports that his side will not rest pushing for the championship crown until it achieves its goal.

He described the match against Discoveries FC as a crucial encounter, stating that his club still maintains its lead. Coach Minnaert noted that his boys consider every game as a fight for the championship.

The Belgian international at the same time expressed confidence in extending his league in the first place in his upcoming matches. "They are not coming closer, and other thing is, we drew but the gap is still the same," he said.

"I think today we should have been making the gap bigger, but some of our players underperformed. For us is always the next game, the most important; until we are champions, we are not going to say we are champions already," FC Fassell Head Coach added.

As it stands, there are 8 remaining matches to climax the season, and every club will have to tighten its grip to fight for the 2024-2025 championship title that still seems unpredictable.

Besides Discoveries FC as the closest rivals, Paynesville FC, Heaven Eleven, Global Pharma, and BEA Mountain are also sitting in a close range to compete for the trophy this season.
