Joint PAC Mandates MPW, Accounting Officer to Remit US$1.5 Million Following GAC Report

Capitol Hill: Following a General Auditing Commission Report, the joint committee on Public Accounts and Expenditure (PAC) has ordered the PIU Accounting Officer at the ministry of public Works to remit into government account the amount of US$1,512,601.66.00.

The action of the joint PAC is due to the ministry's Accounting Officer failure to collect with-holding taxes from CICO and CHICO construction Companies in the tone of US$1,512,601.66.00.

During the first public accounts hearing held at the joint chambers of the capitol building Wednesday, July 17, 2024, PAC joint chair who is Margibi county district #5 Representative Clarence G. Gahr, along with his colleagues frowned on him for knowingly, willfully and single-handedly waving government’s revenue without a proper approval.

The committee also has mandated the MPW, Accounting Officer to take responsibility of said funding and pay back to national government account.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Works remain under oath while additional enquiry into the GAC report.
