“Piah Slams CDC, Accuses Party of Protecting Criminals and Hypocrites”

Capitol Hill, Monrovia Liberia: Information Minister Jerelinmah Piah has warned the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) against involving what he calls "bad elements" in its rebranding efforts.

According to him, individuals linked to past killings in the country, including figures that were in their mixed, like Dr. Lester Tentin, have raised concerns about the party’s credibility.

He criticized the CDC for allowing individuals who publicly confessed to theft to be among those responding to the State of the Nation Address, calling it a misguided approach.

Piah also questioned the credibility of party figures under U.S. sanctions for human rights abuses, alleged corruption, and mismanagement, including the controversial $1.22 million RIA highway project. He argued that such leadership makes it difficult to take the party seriously.

He criticized some critics of the Boakai-Koung administration, pointing out that they had run as independent candidates and questioned their legitimacy in speaking on behalf of a political institution. He specifically condemned Margibi County Senator Nathaniel McGill for acting as a spokesperson while the CDC's national chairman remained passive.

Recalling past atrocities, he mentioned the deaths of prominent figures from the Tolbert and Tubman families under the CDC regime. He also accused McGill of hypocrisy for skipping the State of the Nation Address while spreading misinformation.

Piah further alleged that CDC officials, who once came to power "like poor church-house rats," suddenly amassed wealth while ordinary Liberians continued to live in poor conditions. He emphasized that political power is not an inheritance and stated that, despite any dissatisfaction with President Boakai, the Liberian people would ultimately decide their leadership.
