In a press release published on its official Facebook page on the evening of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the station detailed that the incident occurred during a public altercation between staff members of Margibi District #2 Representative Ivar K. Jones and Robert Francis Okai, a known critic of the lawmaker.

Mr. Lloyd, who was on the scene to document the confrontation, was reportedly attacked by individuals believed to be affiliated with Representative Jones. The assailants allegedly seized the reporter’s mobile phones and deleted all journalistic content, including photos and videos from the incident.

Radio Peace FM labeled the attack as a grave violation of press freedom and a direct threat to the safety and dignity of journalists in Liberia. The station’s management expressed deep concern about the broader implications for press freedom, which is protected under both the Liberian Constitution and international law.

The station has called on the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and other media advocacy organizations to urgently intervene and advocate for justice.

No journalist should face violence or intimidation for simply doing their job,” the release stated, urging authorities to launch a thorough investigation and hold those responsible accountable.

Radio Peace FM reaffirmed its commitment to ethical journalism and the safety of its staff, including interns, and pledged to pursue justice relentlessly until the perpetrators are brought to book.
