Rep. Thomas Pushes Landmark Bill to Establish Paynesville Comprehensive Referral Hospital
MONROVIA, LIBERIA: Montserrado County District #4 Representative Michael Thomas is strongly pushing a decisive legislative step to strengthen healthcare delivery in Paynesville, re-echoing a bill to the House of Representatives seeking to establish the Paynesville Comprehensive Referral Hospital (PCRH).
In a formal communication addressed to the Plenary of the House of Representatives, the Montserrado County District #4 Lawmaker Michael Thomas anchored his proposal in Chapter 10, Article 89 of the Liberian 1986 Constitution, which empowers the Legislature to create government agencies and institutions essential to national development.
The proposed hospital is envisioned as a top-tier referral center, that aims to provide advanced care for critical illnesses, trauma cases, maternity services, and broader public health needs.
Representative Thomas highlighted the severe strain on medical centers in Paynesville and the high population the City holds, stating that it is necessary to establish a Hospital that buttresses medical services.
The Lawmaker said upgrading and transforming the Du-Port Road Medical Center into Paynesville Comprehensive Referral Hospital would relieve pressure on existing health institutions and strengthen emergency response.
The bill proposes that PCRH operates as a government-owned medical institution. He urged his colleagues in the 55th Legislature to give the bill urgent attention, stating that the initiative reflects their oversight responsibility.
If enacted, the legislation would mark one of the most significant healthcare interventions in Paynesville City, and expand access to medical services.
