“I’ll Bring Transportation Costs Down to LD$1,000” — Speaker Koon Pledges Southeast Bus Service

ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County — House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has made a major transportation pledge for residents of Liberia’s Southeast, promising to deploy a Killer Bean bus aimed at bringing transportation costs across the region down to at least LD$1,000.

Speaker Koon made the declaration Wednesday at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, where he also donated a 32-seater bus to help address transportation challenges confronting health workers at the hospital.

“With the current good road conditions under the Unity Party government, I will make one Killer Bean bus available to help reduce transportation costs across the Southeast to at least LD$1,000,” Speaker Koon said.

The announcement places transportation affordability at the center of Koon’s intervention in the Southeast, as residents and workers continue to depend on road connections linking Grand Gedeh with other parts of the region.

Koon said his decision to provide the hospital with a bus followed concerns raised by health workers over transportation difficulties affecting their ability to consistently report for duty.

The Speaker said the donated bus is intended to ease the transportation burden on health workers and help ensure that medical personnel can more reliably access the hospital and provide services to patients.

Beyond the hospital intervention, Koon said he intends to address other pressing concerns confronting residents of Grand Gedeh County and the Southeast, signaling a broader focus on transportation and other basic challenges facing communities in the region.

The proposed bus service, according to the Speaker, will take advantage of what he described as improved road conditions under the current administration to provide residents with a more affordable transportation option.

His pledge has placed the issue of transportation costs in the spotlight, particularly for residents who travel between communities and counties across the Southeast for work, healthcare, education and other essential activities.

Meanwhile, Koon’s donation of the 32-seater bus to Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital is expected to provide immediate transportation support for health workers while the broader regional transportation commitment is pursued.
