Soul Clinic Flood Victims Seek Government's Intervention

Paynesville, Liberia: Residents of Soul Clinic's Outland Community in Paynesville are calling on the government to swiftly intervene and address the flooding situation in their area.

Community residents who were affected by the heavy downpour of rain early Friday, said they have suffered flooding incidents for the last couple of years.

They told K-NEWS that the flooding situation is due to clogged drainage. Aaron Sumo, one of the affected residents, narrated that some unknown individuals are involved in dumping garbage in drainages.

According to him, the act coupled with others building in waterways, has over the years fueled the flooding.

"Anything small rain falls, our drainage gets clogged. The dirt can come from Goba-chop, and also community dwellers can give the dirt to zogos, who can dump them in the drainage".

"This can always happen during the rainy season. We have not seen our District Representative Micheal Thomas yet since this situation".

"We need financial help and also we need garbage dump site and we need the drainage to be clean", Aaron Sumo pleaded.

Also speaking, an other affected resident, Mercy Moore said the flooding situation has led to the damage of serveral of her belongings including a television.

She attributed the flooding problem to some individuals building structures in waterways. Madam Moore wants the relevant authorities to step in and regulate building constructions in the area.

"We want the government to help. To see about people who built in the waterways. Through this issue, l have lost my television and we are getting sick from it", she indicated.

Meanwhile, residents of the Soul Clinic's Outland Community are demanding urgent government to action oversee waste disposal in their community.

Many fear failure to do so, consistent flooding may plunge the community into disaster.
