Speaker Koon Applauds Côte d’Ivoire’s Parliament for Peaceful Leadership Transition
The Legislature of the Republic of Liberia has congratulated the National Assembly of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire for the successful and peaceful transition of its leadership, describing the process as a clear reflection of democratic maturity and institutional stability.
Speaking on behalf of the Liberian Legislature, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, hailed the election of Patrick Achi as Speaker of the Ivorian Parliament, noting that the orderly process underscores Côte d’Ivoire’s firm commitment to constitutional governance.
“The smooth transition of leadership within the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire is a powerful testament to the strength of democratic institutions and respect for parliamentary traditions,” Speaker Koon said.
Speaker Koon also commended members of the Ivorian Parliament for placing national interest above what he calls personal interest, stressing that such democratic conduct enhances public trust and reinforces stability within the sub-region.
The Liberian Speaker at the same time paid glowing tribute to His Excellency, Adama Bictogo, outgoing President of the National Assembly, praising his selfless service and statesmanship, particularly his contributions to regional parliamentary cooperation.
“President Adama Bictogo’s visionary leadership has significantly strengthened inter-parliamentary relations within the Mano River Union,” Speaker Koon stated. “His dedication to regional integration and parliamentary diplomacy has laid a solid foundation for deeper legislative collaboration among MRU member states.”
According to him, President Bictogo’s leadership will remain a lasting legacy, especially in advancing dialogue, cooperation, and shared democratic values across the Mano River Basin.
Reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to regional partnership, Speaker Koon emphasized that the Liberian Legislature stands ready to work closely with the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire and other MRU parliaments to promote peace, democracy, and socio-economic development.
“Liberia remains committed to strengthening parliamentary cooperation with Côte d’Ivoire and our MRU partners in the collective pursuit of peace, democratic governance, and sustainable development,” he added.
