To Strengthen Oversight Function: WFP Empowers the NBC with a Toyota Land Cruiser Valued at US$45K

MONROVIA, LIBERIA: The World Food Program has officially turned over a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser, valued at US$45,000, to the National Bureau of Concessions. The goodwill gesture is a strategic intervention designed to enhance NBC’s field operations, monitoring, and community engagement in concession areas nationwide.

‎The donation forms part of a Peacebuilding Fund-supported initiative that focuses on equitable land access for rural women, livelihood restoration, and conflict reduction in areas prone to land disputes and food insecurity.

‎At the handover ceremony on Monday, November 24, 2025, World Food Program Country Director Mary Njoroge said the vehicle is part of joint efforts aimed at enhancing peace and social cohesion through equitable land access for rural women in conflict-prone communities and concession areas.

‎

‎Madam Njoroge emphasized that WFP’s role extends far beyond just food assistance, but also addresses root causes of tension and promotes sustainable livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest infrastructure, and cooperative community development.

‎She highlighted that WFP’s interventions directly link food security to Peacebuilding.

‎

‎“Communities that work together, share resources, and rebuild livelihoods are communities that build lasting peace,” she said, citing programs that connect local farmers to home-grown school feeding initiatives, strengthen youth and women cooperatives, and introduce climate adaptation technologies such as solar-powered irrigation.

Madam Njoroge reaffirmed WFP’s continued commitment to Liberia’s Peacebuilding agenda, emphasizing that sustainable food systems, equitable land access, and livelihood support are central to national stability.

‎Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the NBC Director General designate, Hansan Kiazolu, Officer-in-Charge, Cllr. B. Rachell Yabah-Duobab expressed gratitude to the Peacebuilding Fund, UN Women, UNDP, and project partners.

“This vehicle is more than transportation—it is a critical tool to enhance monitoring, compliance, and direct engagement with concession communities,” Cllr. Yabah intoned.

‎She acknowledged the contributions of former NBC heads Attorney Edwin N. Dennis and Theodore Momo, Jr., noting that their leadership laid the foundation for the Bureau’s current capacity to oversee concession operations with transparency and accountability.

‎The Officer-in-Charge underscored the operational impact of the donation, explaining that the vehicle will facilitate field inspections, ensure adherence to concession agreements, and provide rapid response to community concerns.

‎“It’s proper use is vital for reducing disputes and building trust between communities and concession operators,” she said.

‎As Liberia advances toward accountable and sustainable concession management; the vehicle donation represents a tangible boost to the National Bureau of Concessions’ capacity, signaling a practical step in linking operational efficiency with national Peacebuilding and development goals.
