BOAKAI SHAKES UP GOVERNMENT, APPOINTS 73 MAGISTRATES AND KEY OFFICIALS ACROSS LIBERIA

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has announced a sweeping round of government appointments, placing new officials in key institutions while naming 73 Stipendiary and Associate Magistrates across 13 counties in what the administration says is an effort to strengthen public institutions, improve justice delivery and enhance government services.

The appointments, announced Tuesday, August 11, 2026, affect the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Judiciary, Office of the Ombudsman, Forestry Development Authority, Central Bank of Liberia and Ministry of Mines and Energy. Several of the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Among the most notable appointments is Ms. Euphemia Sweh-Monmia, who has been named Deputy Governor for Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Liberia. The President also appointed F. Alphonso Y. Belleh II as Deputy Minister for Youth Development, while Sundeh A. Blanyon was named Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services at the Forestry Development Authority.

The changes also extend to the Judiciary and accountability institutions. Cllr. T. Emmanuel Tomah has been appointed Relieving Judge for River Gee County, while Atty. Etmonia Mueadeh Martin has been promoted to Chairperson of the Office of the Ombudsman to fill a vacancy. Cllr. Sagie F. Kamara, Sr. has also been appointed Commissioner at the Ombudsman’s Office.

At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, President Boakai appointed Moses Y. Kollie as Industrial Relations Manager at China Union/Bangli and Fahnlon B. Gbakoyah as Industrial Relations Manager at MNG Gold in Bong County. The appointments come as the government continues to rely on key institutions to manage economic activity, natural resources and relations between companies and workers.

The biggest part of Tuesday’s announcement, however, is the deployment of 73 magistrates across Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Sinoe, Maryland, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Nimba, Bong, Lofa, Bomi, Grand Kru, River Cess and Gbarpolu counties. The appointments place judicial officers in magisterial courts ranging from Bushrod Island, Gardnersville and Omega in Montserrado to Ganta, Sanniquellie, Yekepa, Gbarnga, Greenville and other parts of the country.

The new magistrates include Cllr. Augustus Tarpeh at the Bushrod Island Magisterial Court, Cllr. Lawrence Jackson in Gardnersville, Cllr. T. Joseph B. Debblay in Omega and Atty. Bartholomew B. Colley in Bensonville. In Nimba County, the appointments cover several courts, including Beepay, Duo, Boe, Kpablee, Zuolay, Lugbayee, Garnwee/Zekepa, Ganta, Cocopa, Sanniquellie and other judicial locations.

In Sinoe County, 12 magistrates have been appointed, including Atty. Joseph O. Brown as Stipendiary Magistrate of the Greenville City Magisterial Court. Bong County also receives eight new Associate Magistrates, while Grand Bassa receives seven. Other appointments cover Maryland, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Bomi, Grand Kru, River Cess and Gbarpolu counties.

President Boakai said the appointments are intended to strengthen government institutions and ensure effective leadership and service delivery. He congratulated the appointees and charged them to serve with “professionalism, integrity, diligence, and a firm commitment to the public interest.” The President’s latest appointments now place a large number of new officials across Liberia’s government and judicial system, with Senate confirmation still required where applicable.
