Speaker Koon Urges Guinea’s Doumbouya To Strengthen Ties With Liberia, Calls For Stronger Regional Parliamentary Cooperation

Liberia’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, has met with Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya in Conakry, with discussions centered on strengthening regional cooperation and parliamentary relations among West African countries.

The meeting took place during Speaker Koon’s official visit to Guinea, where he joined parliamentary leaders from Sierra Leone, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and other countries for engagements focused on peace, security, development, and regional integration.

Speaker Koon used the meeting to emphasize the importance of stronger relations among countries of the Mano River Union, saying closer parliamentary cooperation could help address common challenges confronting the sub-region.

He also encouraged President Doumbouya to work closely with Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, describing the relationship between Liberia and Guinea as one that should be built on mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation.

Speaker Koon said, “I encourage you to regard President Joseph Boakai as an elder brother and to work with him in the interest of peace and stronger relations between our two countries.”

The Liberian House Speaker further highlighted the establishment of the Mano River Union Parliamentary body, saying it would provide lawmakers from member states with an opportunity to exchange legislative experiences and collectively address issues affecting their citizens.

According to Speaker Koon, “Parliamentary diplomacy has an important role to play in strengthening trust, promoting dialogue, and advancing our common interests, particularly in peace and security, trade, infrastructure, and regional integration.”

He stressed that Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Côte d’Ivoire share historical, geographical, economic, and cultural ties, adding that stronger cooperation among the countries remains essential to achieving sustainable peace and development across the region.
