House Fires Back at “Four-Month Gas Arrears” Report, Says Staff Fuel Claims Are False and Misleading

Capitol Hill, Liberia:The Honorable House of Representatives has strongly rejected reports that legislative staff have gone four months without gasoline allocations, describing the claims as inaccurate, misleading, and inconsistent with the Legislature’s established fuel distribution system.

The House says the Legislature does not receive gasoline on a monthly basis, but operates under a two-month allocation cycle. According to the House administration, the last gasoline received in July covered the months of May and June, while the allocation for July and August arrived on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The House says the latest consignment has already been released for distribution, with lawmakers and legislative staff currently receiving their allocations through the Procurement Department. Distribution, according to the administration, is continuing today.

The clarification directly challenges claims circulating that legislative staff are being denied or owed four consecutive months of gasoline. The House maintains that there is no four-month fuel arrear, insisting that the current distribution represents the July-August allocation under the Legislature’s established two-month cycle.

The House further says the Chair on Rules, Order and Administration, Representative James M. Kolleh, remains engaged with the relevant administrative structures to address the logistical needs of lawmakers and staff. The administration says those efforts are being pursued within established procedures and the allocations made available to the Legislature.

The House is also urging staff members who have concerns about fuel or other logistical matters to use established institutional channels rather than relying on unverified reports or public speculation. At the same time, it is calling on media institutions to seek clarification from the appropriate administrative authorities before attributing decisions or failures to individual lawmakers.

The House says reports suggesting that staff have been left without four months of gasoline do not accurately reflect the institution’s allocation and distribution process. It maintains that the latest distribution is evidence that the July-August allocation has arrived and is being processed.

The Legislature says it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and engagement with the Liberian public, while insisting that factual clarification should precede public conclusions about its administrative operations.
