Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu Highlights China Liberia Ties at Spring Festival Reception
Monrovia, Liberia: China’s Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, hosted a Spring Festival reception near Monrovia, bringing together invited guests, officials, and members of the diplomatic community to mark the upcoming Chinese New Year.
Welcoming attendees, Ambassador Yin Chengwu spoke about the cultural importance of the Spring Festival, describing it as the oldest and most significant traditional celebration of the Chinese people.
“The Spring Festival embodies the Chinese people’s aspiration for a happy and fulfilling life,” Ambassador Yin said, noting that the occasion is centered on celebration, unity, and reflection.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu described 2025 as “an extraordinary year” for China, pointing to national milestones and economic performance.
He disclosed that China’s economy recorded a 5 percent growth rate, with its Gross Domestic Product surpassing RMB 140 trillion yuan for the first time. He also referenced advancements in science, technology, environmental protection, and overall national development.
The Ambassador further highlighted China’s diplomatic engagements and global initiatives aimed at strengthening international cooperation and development.
Focusing on bilateral relations, Ambassador Yin Chengwu emphasized the strengthening partnership between China and Liberia.
According to the Ambassador, Liberia’s exports to China increased by 23.9 percent, reaching US$131 million, citing China Customs statistics. He also referenced China’s zero-tariff treatment for Liberian products.
Ambassador Yin pointed to ongoing development cooperation, including the construction of overpass bridges on Tubman Boulevard and the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory at the 14th Military Hospital.
Turning to the future, Ambassador Yin Chengwu described 2026 as a year of renewed opportunity, marking the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Liberia, particularly through alignment with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda.
“We hope this will deliver more tangible benefits and lift the China Liberia strategic partnership to new heights,” Ambassador Yin said.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu underscored the importance of cultural and people-to-people connections, revealing that approximately 600 activities are planned across Africa under the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
As part of the Embassy’s engagement efforts, he announced that 10 followers of the Embassy’s Facebook page were invited to attend the reception.
Ambassador Yin Chengwu proposed a toast to peace, prosperity, and the continued friendship between China and Liberia.
Referencing the upcoming Year of the Horse, he noted that the symbol represents vitality, progress, and success in Chinese culture.
“I sincerely wish that China Liberia relations will gallop and make greater success in the year ahead,” Ambassador Yin said.
