Civil Law Court Orders Eviction of CDC Headquarters in Landmark Legal Battle

Monrovia-The Civil Law Court  has  issued a writ of eviction, setting the stage for the dramatic removal of the former ruling party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), from its headquarters. This landmark decision stemmed from a contentious legal battle that unfolded in the wake of the Supreme Court's opinion against the CDC, upholding a lower court's ruling in favor of plaintiff Ebrima Varney Dempster, representing Martha Stubblefield Bernard.

Judge Golda Elliot's decisive action, embodied in the writ of possession dated March 7, 2024, left no room for ambiguity. It commanded the Sheriff to execute the eviction with precision, ordering the removal of the CDC from the Bernard family's premises.

However, Judge Elliot's instructions went even further. In a subsequent writ, she directed the Sheriff to apprehend the corporate officers and administrators of the CDC should they fail to comply with the court's order to pay outstanding rental fees totaling over 54 thousand United States dollars and over 13 thousand Liberian dollars to the plaintiff.

This uncompromising stance underscored the gravity of the situation, leaving the defendants with little recourse but to either meet the financial obligations or face legal repercussions.

The origins of this dispute traced back to the origins of the property itself, a legacy bestowed upon the Party by esteemed figures such as the late William Thomas, Archibald L. Bernard, and Nancy Freddy Bernard Freeman. Yet, despite its historical significance, the property had become the focal point of a legal showdown, emblematic of the shifting tides in Liberia's political landscape.

As the saga unfolds, the fate of the CDC's headquarters hung in the balance, casting a shadow over its once unassailable position of power.
