Lofa County Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing His Mother with an Axe
Police in Lower Lofa are investigating Vannie Dunor for allegedly killing his mother in Porluwu Town, Wanhassa District, on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
According to eyewitness Bendu Kamara, Dunor arrived from Popalahun Town and met his mother at home. Shortly after, he collapsed and became unconscious. Residents rushed to help and revived him.
After regaining consciousness, Dunor reportedly told those around him that nothing was wrong but said he did not want to see his mother. He tried to leave the yard, but his mother followed him, asking what had happened. He repeatedly told her to leave him alone.
Witnesses said Dunor then picked up an axe and allegedly struck his mother several times on the head and face.
Residents rushed the injured woman to the clinic in Bolahun but were told to take her to Kolahun Hospital because the clinic was closed and staff were unavailable. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The Liberian National Police have launched an investigation. The suspect is in police custody and is expected to be forwarded to court.
The incident is the second reported case in Lofa County within two months in which a child has allegedly killed a parent with an axe. On May 11, 2026, John K. Ndorbor, 21, allegedly killed his father in Yangbalahun, Kolahun District.
