Kugmeh reportedly visited the hospital on February 24, 2025, for a routine antenatal consultation. However, she was informed that she was 44 weeks and five days pregnant and was immediately admitted for labor induction. Despite her medical history and preference for a natural birth, Kugmeh was induced, which led to an emergency C-section the following day, February 25. What was intended to be a standard procedure resulted in life-threatening complications, profoundly affecting Kugmeh’s health.
In a statement issued on March 20, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection called for accountability in the handling of Kugmeh’s case, highlighting the lack of clear explanations regarding her complications. The Ministry emphasized the need for adherence to medical best practices and patient-centered care in all healthcare facilities.
The Ministry has also called on the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. It stressed the importance of understanding what went wrong, providing Kugmeh with the necessary medical and psychological support, and preventing similar cases in the future.
Additionally, the Ministry urged law enforcement agencies to enforce stricter measures and penalties for medical malpractice, ensuring the protection of patient safety.
The Ministry pledged its full support to Kugmeh and her family during this difficult time, advocating for prompt and decisive action to address her case.
