Reintroduced Vacation Jobs For Liberian Youth and Students
Monrovia Liberia: Since the end of the Civil War, many Liberian youths have been calling for vacation jobs. Despite these ongoing appeals, former Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and George Weah did not introduce any vacation job programs.
However, the Boakai Koung administration has now reintroduced vacation jobs for youth across the country.
The Labour Ministry has reintroduced its popular Student Aid Back to School Assistance Program, commonly known as Vacation Jobs. The initiative had been on hold for over five years due to funding and collaboration issues between the Labor Ministry and companies.
At a news conference in Monrovia over the weekend, Labour Minister Hon. Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah announced that the Ministry, through the National Bureau of Employment, is restarting the National Vacation Job Program. This year, the program aims to assist more than 340 needy students.
Minister Kruah explained that the program is designed to engage Liberian youth in vacation jobs and community development while providing financial support from July to September. He noted that this assistance will help alleviate the financial burden on students returning to school amid current economic challenges.
With support from partners, the Ministry plans to allocate just over $27,800 across three pilot counties: Montserrado, Margibi, and Grand Bassa.
