VP Koung Launches "ACT GREEN, THINK CLEAN" Drive to Promote Environmental Awareness

Monrovia, Liberia: In a conspicuous display of commitment to Liberia’s environmental sustainability, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung Sr. has officially launched the Monrovia City Council’s "Act Green, Think Clean" campaign.
The elaborate ceremony, which took place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Unification Park situated in the PHP Community, Central Monrovia, is part of the Unity Party-led government's wider approach to tackling the life-threatening environmental challenges Liberia is currently faced with.
The “Act Green, Think Clean” operation aims to encourage a cleaner, greener future for all inhabitants.
This sanitation effort is also in conformity with the UP’’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and is being championed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
The initiative seeks to address critical topics like climate change, preserving Liberia's natural resources, and the promotion of ecological accountability across all sectors of society.
Macdonald M. Metzger, Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration in the office of the Vice President, remarking on behalf of the Vice President Koung, echoed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the environment.
“Environmental sustainability is not just a government priority; it is a responsibility we all share. This campaign is a call to action for every Liberian to join efforts in protecting our planet and building a sustainable future,” VP Koung’s proxy intoned.
Vice President Koung reiterated Liberia’s commitment to battling climate change through strong decision-making and workable actions.
Metzger said, "This campaign reflects our determination to protect our natural resources and promote environmental resilience, ensuring a cleaner and greener Liberia for generations to come.".
The "Act Green, Think Clean" campaign is expected to be decentralized beyond Monrovia to encourage the involvement of all Liberians to robustly tackle environmental conservation.
The official unveiling of the “Act Green, Think Clean” sanitation initiative captured the embedding of more than one hundred trees by the Lions Club International in partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC).
The planting of the over one hundred trees signifies MCC's commitment to collaborating with other sectoral heads aimed at deriving mechanisms to alleviate the negative impacts of climate change.
For his part, Monrovia City Mayor John-Charuk Siafa rallied for broader community participation to protect Liberia’s infrastructure situated along the coastline.
Mayor Saifa: “We all must come together as a community to tackle the impact of climate change and protect our most valuable public assets, such as the JFK Hospital, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Executive Mansion.".
Also making remarks, Clemenceau Urey, District Governor of Lions Club International, reaffirmed his organization's unwavering commitment to the success of the initiative.
Urey said, "The Lions Club is proud to be part of this effort to ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for Liberia.”
